About The Art
My work emerges through a process that balances entropy and control. I use resin, paint and heat. I mix resin with pigment and use a heat gun like a paint brush to manipulate the resin until I achieve my desired composition. Because the results of merging these media are immediate and unforgiving, my way of working requires an embracing of spontaneity and a keen sense of timing. My dedication to the process is rooted in my love for material, pushing it’s boundaries and expectations.
Resin lends itself to the build up of layers, capturing traces of time, passage and movement. My Horizon paintings are nature based abstractions, inspired by the notions and aesthetics of 19th century sublime landscapes. I am interested in the dichotomy of an industrial material evolving past it’s commercial purposes to convey an organic ambiance. My paintings become expressive representations of nature’s mystery and sensuality.
About the Artist
I was born in Minsk, Belarus and moved to the states when I was 9 years old. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Art from Columbus State University and I currently reside and make art from my studio in Columbus, Georgia. My media of choice are watercolor and resin. In my Horizon paintings, I work with pigmented, luminous resin. I work in layers, building up color and marks with each layer. This way of working allows me to create the depth, energy and ethereal nature I desire in my art. In my botanical work I explore my interest in the interaction of color. I am inspired by how glazes of transparent color and cloudy opaques balance each other to create depth and intensity. Similarly to my Horizons, the process requires control but invites spontaneity. My inspiration lies in movement, exciting color combinations and exploration of new techniques.
