Ashleigh Rosa Ninos received her BFA from Alfred University with a concentration in painting in 2005. After focusing on subjects from life using oils, she's spent recent years using mixed materials and fabric dye in abstract works on paper. Ashleigh currently teaches in the visual arts at a small private high school on California's Central Coast.
New Hampshire raised and California residing, I often find myself longing for anything resembling weather. The Forecast Series grew organically out of my craving for the psychological weight weather carries; a reflection of my geographic move and seasons missed. Drawing a parallel to the affect of hearty weather, I try and utilize the inherent properties of my materials: the paper soaks, warps and stretches under the weight of water; altered and stained as a trace to the dip-dying process. My process is often intuitive and organic, riddled with happy accidents that make this series truly one of a kind.
