While earning her Bachelors Degree in Art History, Rachel cultivated a regular practice of printmaking, a medium which was new to her. This practice brought forth a rejuvenation reminiscent of the times she had spent in nature as a youth. Expanding upon this connection she began focusing on the stillness felt within oneself when surrounded by the natural world.
Rachel’s current work, in both block printing and painting, uses line work to explore the oft overlooked details of our connections to each other and to our environment and focuses on moments of emotional stillness and peace. In these pieces the viewers have remarked that they are drawn to the simplicity of the art, which seem still and fluid at the same time, whereby they later realize the underlying movement and complexity of those seemly simple lines.
